Daniel Peters, is a fellow freelance filmmaker based in the U.K. He might look like a rockstar, and in part you’d be right. Daniel creates music videos like a rock legend and has over 20 music videos under his belt. Also, he has shot and edited documentaries and wedding videos. We are going to explore his methods of pre-production, production, his influences, and his inspirations as a filmmaker.
How did Daniel catch our eyes at AWSY? He shot directed and edited an experimental video called Bertie & Princess. The video beautifully showcases the work of a stable and the majestic nature of horse riding. He caught our eyes again with his latest work with the band Hello Lazarus- X marks. There’s no way to describe this music video. Therefore, we are posting it here! We hope that you’ll enjoy it as we did.
Mr. Peters, has accepted to be interviewed by the AWSY team on Vimeo. #AREWESHOOTINGYET Vimeo INTERVIEW:
We interviewed Daniel Peters through Vimeo.

Hello, Daniel!
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to talk to you and accepting the interview.
Q: How did you find your next project? A: I’ve got to the point where clients contact me regarding music videos/weddings etc.
Anything different that I want to endeavor in, I contact companies discussing ideas, projects.
Q: Tell us how is your average day of pre-production? A: My usual Pre-production depends on the project. First thing is usually typical-location hunting, but for many bands this is tricky as most bands can’t afford location fees which makes my job a lot harder…as i think location is key when it comes to any project. Then if anything in the treatment requires any effects, I usually test that out first with stand ins, etc., to make sure it works smoothly…so that way i don’t shoot myself in the foot on delivery time.
Q: How do you meet such talented bands and what is your work ethic with them or any other client? A: Sometimes through my brothers recording studio (Anemic Studios) or from bands spreading the word on my work. My work ethic is usually the same with everyone…until I hear the song, i can vision the location, story, feel etc. Then I discuss my vision and the band usually likes it, few changes might happen here and there, due to time, location, actors or just simple story changes. But if i don’t feel for the song, I won’t do the project. It will just hurt me more than if I shot it for the money…if my heart isn’t in it I won’t do it. Been there and done that and…well it simply didn’t come out good.
Q: How do you fight with writer’s block? Because my writer’s block is kicking my ass for months now. A: Writer’s block is a bitch. I’m a big tv/drama fan so most of my inspiration comes from that and great photography…rather than other music video pieces.

Q: How do you manage to make your digital footage look and feel organic? Especially with your latest work with Hello Lazarus. A: I’m glad you said that. There are so many people shooting now that everything looks the same so, I always try my best to make my work … well look like my work. To be honest, anyone can shoot music videos, but I want to have a certain style with mine. For the Hello Lazarus one, they actually didn’t like the idea at first, so I had to do a lot of convincing which makes that project even more satisfying for how it came out. Im a big fan of film, the look of shows like, true blood, american horror story… so I try my best to copy that look with whatever I’m shooting on, which is usually cheap digital cameras haha. Funny enough, nearly that whole video was shot with a cheap Sony Nex5n.
Q: As a musician yourself do you feel like you have an advantage in the editing room?A: Def not….but my way of editing i do just as they way i shoot. If I’m not feeling the song, I won’t edit it…so I usually edit the video straight away as I am completely in that vibe/zone of that style. I hope a lot of my edits look different too and editing is def another form of art. A great cinematographer can shoot something amazing and beautiful but an editor…can fuck that up in seconds, Ha!
Q: Which is your favorite gear so far? A: Def the Red Scarlet but i wouldn’t be able to appreciate it if I didn’t start off shooting the way I did. I started with a Panasonic HVX 200 with a shoot35 adapter, then moved over to the Canon 5DMKII and here I am now with the scarlet…
Q: Tell us about your production workflow?A: My production workflow with bands tend to be a little similar I usually start off shooting the wides, as this warms up the band and they tend to not feel too awkward as I’m not right in their face yet with the camera.
Q: What would be your dream-gear? A: I think my only dream gear would be the phantom camera… other than that, i’d much rather have great actors and access to amazing locations.
Q: Do you have a new project in mind or in pre-production do you want to share with us? A: I’ve been writing and trying to start shooting my web series that would air an 1hr episode every 2 weeks, but getting the budget for actors/locations has been really tricky. Thats all I can share on that, Ha!
Q: Was there ever a project that turned into a nightmare? What did you do to keep from happening again?
Ha definitely… a band changed their mind on the location and said were nearly here now and we’ll just shoot it at your studio. I said no, they showed up anyways…discussed a few things, pretty had to set up and shoot a music video in 2-3 hours… no names mentioned, sorry, Ha!

Great trailer for a very interesting documentary about the technology of Film and Digital Video. Hosted by Keanu Reeves asking question to Hollywood working filmmakers like; David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, and other industries filmmakers.
It also opens the discussion of 3D films… Hollywood Scam!
The documentary investigates the history, process and workflow of both digital and photochemical film creation. We show what artists and filmmakers have been able to accomplish with both film and digital and how their needs and innovations have helped push filmmaking in new directions. Interviews with directors, cinematographers, colorists, scientists, engineers and artists reveal their experiences and feelings about working with film and digital—where we are now, how we got here and what the future may bring.
This documentary should be in our must list watch!

Thanks people we actual made my tumbelog to appear in the filmmaking directory!! Whoa!! You guys are great!
Thanks y’all!
Brainstorming , outlining, and now working with index cards. Trying to put a
documentary spoof together. Figuring out what might and might not work
especially having a little voice inside my head saying keep it simple! Is kind
of frustrating keeping myself on the ground trying to make this movie
as cheap as possible.
My goal for this production will be use at least $350 to make this short
film.I will be putting the Intruders on hold for now. I want to make this movie look more like a documentary have some nice set ups and fool the audience believing that our characters are real.
That would be sweet to make actually. I will keep you updated on the
upcoming process and see where can we take it from here.
Aren’t we supposed to get this credit? I was having a discussion with my mother about love. But then she jumped in to the GOD created love wagon. So pretty much I feel like we are just puppets that have not created a single thing on Earth. These are some things we have no credit for; Pyramids(Aliens), Love(God), Cute baby animals(God), Religion(God). Here are the things we have created such as; Hate(Humans),War(Humans), GREED(Humans) and among other negative attribute.
Did we learned love from a messiah with a small agenda? What do you think? Keep this in mind my mother doesn’t believe in evolution. However, with her statement I think she contradicted herself. We never made love possible? It’s all about a man riding a huge cloud getting all the credit.
I’ve been struggling for months using kickstarter.com on creating a fundraiser for The Intruders. So far we only had five people that pledged and 2% of funds collected. I thought that Kickstarter would have been a great neat source to use to grab people’s attention and their support. Some ideas take flight and others collide. Here is a quote from one of my updates.
I do want to make this film…one of my friends said this movie must be made. People loves your story and it’s hillarious. Come on!! A Tea Bag activist being abducted by Aliens? It’s a funny movie.
Please help me make my new short The Intruders in to an actual movie!
Epic Fail it did not work.
However, some plans do work and others don’t. What happens when you have an idea or project that does not move forward? You unplug the project and let it die. Goodbye Kickstarters and hello Teabag The Aliens Fund project. Me and a friend of mine will be making fundraisers to obtain our goal.
On teabagthealiens.net we will be updating fundraiser information, update on our progress and a lot of random ideas for this project of course. I’m really excited for this site. I do hope this works and I’m looking forward seeing more updates and videos introducing The Intruders.
Anybody who pledged on kickstarter please look at teabagthealiens.net. So you could donate and still receive cool prizes for donating. I will be cancelling the kickstarter project in three days.
“Silence is a source of great strength.”
Today’s meeting with Alejandro Cruz, it was great for two reason; one I haven’t seen him in months, two he is truly creative and spontaneous. We had this meeting earlier today for portrait photos for my website. We came up with a couple of ideas…but Keely came up with this idea. Victor dressed with a banana suit running away from a smoothie store. BRILLIANT!! Of course, we will do some serious but wacky photos, beyond that I’m looking forward to work with Alejandro. I can’t wait… right now I’m flowing with ideas for my portraits.
Hey everybody, I hope you like my blog’s new look…it is looking very nice indeed. This past week I have been working on the post production of my new short Johnny Apocalypse. It’s coming a long good. Especially there’s a lot of little details and effect to work on. At least I have my first cut done. Now I’ll work on it’s music and the special effects of this short. I’m telling you this short has been a learning experience. I should follow my own advice Keep It Simple Stupid.
Hey before I forget. I am still doing my fundraiser with kickstarter. So far I’ve been stuck with 2% pledged and 65 more days to go. Help me create my next short film The Intruders.
Yeap, we all knew that Glenn Beck is a looney. This is my question now…is he the anti-christ? Or is it Jesus Miranda? All I know the world is filled with mentally unstable people. Which have hidden agenda for their own gratification.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) (via r9M)
One of my top movie on my movie list.
As all we know I am doing a fundraiser on kickstarter. For my new short science fiction movie The Intruders. So far its going slow and I am a little bit worried, I think is not doing very well. So far I have only reached 2% of my goal amount…do you know what two percent means to me? FAIL…I know I can’t say much because I only have 77 days left. But come on…I try twittering, I facebook, emails!? Nothing I start to feel like if was one of those lonely spammers in this cyberspace. I try to approach people…I tried to make a better video pitch to my kickstarter and see but hell I hate being in front of the camera.
I have been trying to hard and so far nothing. I am doing what I hate most…shouting out for money to get this great project on board. I really don’t know how to market myself…this is not my thing. I just do things, get it cut and presented to people. I am no PR (public relations) person.
I do want to make this film…one of my friends said this movie must be done. People loves your story and it’s hillarious. Come on!! A Tea Bag activist being abducted by Aliens? It’s funny a movie. All I have to comment that I would like to make but it would be possible if I have people like you backing this project. What if you can’t? It does not matter at least let your friends know about it. Share the news!
Please help me make my new short The Intruders in to an actual movie!
Hang on tight while we grab the next page
