kickstarter:

Pretty cool things happening over here, guys!

Techcrunch:

Google is announcing this morning that YouTube creators can now link their videos to projects onKickstarter and Indiegogo. The company says that these crowd-sourced fundraising platforms were already being used by many YouTube creators, so it wanted to make it easier for those folks to connect their YouTube viewers to their project’s page.

Wow! This could actually really help filmmakers and web series creators to finance their endeavor on YouTube. Interested? Click on the title for more information.

ACTA, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, is the notorious, unprecedented secret copyright treaty that was negotiated by industry representatives and government trade reps, without any access by elected representatives, independent business, the press, public interest groups, legal scholars, independent economists and so on. Time and again, the world’s richest governmental administrations (only rich countries were in the negotiation) told their own parliaments and congresses that they could not see what was in the treaty, nor know the details of the discussion.

The European Parliament was one of the bodies that asked its administration to share the treaty discussions with the elected members, only to be turned down. Cables in the Wikileaks dumps showed US officials orchestrating this secrecy because they knew how unpopular this one-sided, heavy-handed copyright treaty would be. Freedom of Information requests to the Obama administration confirmed that the reason for the secrecy was the experience in transparent negotiation at the UN, which resulted in an uprising by developing nations, who saw stricter, more expansive copyrights as a means of extracting rents from the world’s poorest people.

2012 is going to be a very exciting year for us at the Unga Dunga Production.

Also, we promise that there will no spam on our newsletter.

I am going to be frank with you on this issue. There’s being a lot of “fanboyism” to describe the weird euphoria that happened a week ago, by the latest release of two camera giants Canon and RED. The C-300 and the Scarlet both camera have created a division between filmmakers which post comments or forums people are calling each other names like; amateur, or rich boy tool bag. Ridiculous, to say the least of this current situation. We have read so many post on how good both are or how not so good both of these cameras are.

However, people have pre-ordered the new RED Scarlet. Which camera should be shipping soon as I am finished writing this. Filmmakers are planning to use this camera for documentaries, TV shows, Low budget films and among other production edeavor.

So all in all. Is this the camera for you? Possibly. Weigh up the pros and cons and the costs especially. Working with the Epic is a dream and a massive pain in the butt that almost always pays off in the end. Despite having 3 shoots which have had huge issues with my Epic. Total lockdown on my first commercial, had to be sent back. BAD skipped frames on “Host” making sync a nightmare and on my last piece, done for fun…The Redneck Hippie buzzing all over the audio. I still love the camera and will continue to shoot with it a lot. But this is the first time in 23 years of shooting that I have gone on a job with a camera that I don’t trust. I worry about how reliable the Scarlet will be. I really hope the all the issues will be ironed out so nobody goes through what I have gone through.

Last month, the Tribeca Film Institute had a panel of filmmakers from HBO and TFI finalists sharing their knowledge about distribution. Before you go on a film festival try to get these important files that will help get your film or media distributed to the masses.

There are certain obvious materials that are essential to releasing your film, and other not-so-obvious materials that may earn you gold stars and make your film much more attractive to potential distributors.

This is a link to an article that I have stumbled upon about how to do freelancing as a filmmaker.

Small excerpt:

A Freelance Filmmaker’s Guide to Making a Living is an ongoing series to help artists from all walks of the filmmaking spectrum work their way through the trenches of the indie film world and a guide on how to come out fiscally ahead.

Now, the first thing everyone will tell you is that rates are always a challenge. Not only do you account for the regional cost of living, but also: market saturation, competitive rates, cost of overhead or gear, experience, talent, and your own availability. The first thing you should really do in this situation is to take a look at your competition. Some people post their rates online but a majority will smartly list them as: negotiable.
